Mel Gibson is headed back to the Gold Rush. Deadline reports the actor will direct, co-write, and star in a new TV series titled The Barbary Coast.
The series will also feature Kurt Russell and Kate Hudson, who will both executive produce alongside Oliver Hudson.
Based on Herbert Asbury’s book of the same name, The Barbary Coast will chronicle the massive influx of “of gold-seekers, gamblers, thieves, harlots, politicians and other felonious parasites” to the new city of San Francisco during the Gold Rush of 1849.
Producer Mark Gordon said:
Most people don’t know the scandalous history behind San Francisco, and The Barbary Coast offers a rich portrayal of a period when success was often attained through illicit and brutal means. I’m excited that Kurt and Kate are working together alongside Mel, whose astute direction will bring this devious time in our history to life.”
What do you think? Have you read The Barbary Coast? Are you a fan of Mel Gibson? Would you watch the historical series?
