It’s a big week for Batman fans. First, Gotham gets renewed. And now, Comic Book Resources reports Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy will reprise their voice roles for the upcoming film adaptation of the graphic novel, Batman: The Killing Joke.
Hamill and Conroy voiced The Joker and Batman, respectively, on FOX’s popular TV show, Batman: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992 to 1995.
Released in 1988, The Killing Joke tells the origin story of The Joker as written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland. Since its release, the graphic novel has become one of the most popular and critically acclaimed Batman comics of all time. In 1989, it won the Eisner Award for “Best Graphic Album.”
For the film adaptation, Hamill and Conroy will join Tara Strong as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon and Ray Wise as Commissioner Jim Gordon. The film is being produced by Warner Bros. Animation.
From Hamill, in a press statement:
The chance to work once again with Kevin Conroy, my favorite Batman, in what some consider the definitive origin of this iconic villain is a dream come true for me. I am beyond thrilled to return as The Joker in ‘The Killing Joke!'”
