What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the FOX television network, Beat Shazam is an interactive, musical game show hosted by Jamie Foxx. Jeff Apploff created the series and executive produces with Rich Riley, Lauren Zalaznick, and Foxx. Beat Shazam features a group of two-player teams, who race against the clock, and each other, to identify song selections. In each round, Foxx presents a choice of two musical categories. The object is to be the first team to correctly identify the song’s title. While low-scoring teams are eliminated, the team which banks the most money will ultimately advance to compete against the Shazam app, for a chance at a huge cash prize.
Season One Ratings
The first season of Beat Shazam averaged a 0.87 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.83 million viewers. Find out how Beat Shazam stacks up against the other FOX TV shows.
On July 12, 2017, Beat Shazam was renewed for a second season with a start date TBD. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
With mediocre ratings, I expect a renewal will leave me singing for my supper. First of all, Foxx is an entertaining host. Also, game shows seem to be experiencing something of a renaissance lately, and are cheaper to produce than scripted series. Finally, unlike its forebear, Name That Tune, Beat Shazam is literally a 60 minute product placement for the Shazam app (and the series hails from Apploff Entertainment and MGM Television in association with Shazam). Still, I’ll keep an eye on the ratings and update this page as needed. Subscribe for free updates on any Beat Shazam cancellation and renewal news.
