While FOX has been trying to beef up its non-scripted programming, back in April, it pulled You the Jury from the schedule after only two episodes aired. And its low-rated competitive reality series, Kicking and Screaming, seems likely to kick the bucket, too. Will its new Beat Shazam TV show prove to be a winner? Can Jamie Foxx and the magic of music ensure this game show’s swan song is still a long way off? Cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
An interactive, musical game show hosted by Jamie Foxx, Beat Shazam features a group of two-player teams, who race against the clock, and each other, to identify song selections. In each round, Foxx presents a choice of two musical categories. The object is to be the first team to correctly identify the song’s title. While low-scoring teams are eliminated from the FOX game show, the team which banks the most money will ultimately advance to compete against the Shazam app, for a chance at a huge cash prize.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival.
