Beauty and the Geek began running on the WB network in 2005 and made the transition to the CW network in 2007. The TV show’s produced by Fox 21, Katalyst Films and 3 Ball Prods. with executive producers including Ashton Kutcher, Jason Goldberg and Nick Santora.
The series was initially hosted by Total Request Live’s Brian McFayden and Mike Richards took over after season one. The reality show matches up a socially-challenged intellectuals with intellectually-challenged ladies. They live together during the competition and a couple is eliminated each week following various challenges. The ultimate winners take home a cash prize.
The reality show’s fifth season ratings didn’t measure up to the CW’s expectations so Beauty was cancelled. It was suggested that the series could return after a suitable hiatus and that it might undergo some retooling.
A couple months ago, we reported that casting was already underway for a sixth season. The Beauty producers are still looking for the usual selection of intelligent and quirky males. They’re recruiting for the “ultimate social experiment” in various cities across the country. The casting notices haven’t mentioned the ladies though and now, we know why.
As suspected, there’s new twist this time around. The sixth season will be a “celebrity” edition of the reality show and the females will be made up of semi-famous beauties. Don’t expect the likes of Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan though. The female players will be made up of former contestants from other reality shows and Playboy playmates.
Though no start date has been announced for the next season, it looks like they’ll be airing on MTV. The cable channel, of course, is no stranger to the series as it’s frequently aired reruns of past seasons. Stay tuned!
