Ben and Kate: TV Show Premiere Ratings

Ben and Kate on FOX ratingsFOX’s first new sitcom of the season, Ben and Kate, debuted last night. How did it do in the ratings? Was it a a Running Wilde kind of flop or another New Girl-style success?

Ben and Kate revolves around adult siblings who see life very differently and ultimately benefit from the other’s influence. The cast includes Dakota Johnson, Nat Faxon, Lucy Punch, Maggie Elizabeth Jones, and Echo Kellum.

Airing opposite, ABC’s Dancing with the Stars results show, CBS’ NCIS, NBC’s The Voice, and a Hart of Dixie rerun on The CW, Ben and Kate’s first episode attracted a mediocre 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.19 million total viewers.

It was in third place in the demo, beating the first hour of the DWTS results show, and was in a distant fourth place in viewership. It lost 26% of its demo lead-in from New Girl.

Compared to the season premiere of Glee one year earlier, FOX was down by 50% in the demo and 54% in total viewers.

Though it’d be hard to call Ben and Kate a success, it’s not a flop either. While the numbers aren’t great, the series did hold it’s own against some very serious competition. If it can grow its audience, Ben and Kate has a chance for survival but that’s going to be an uphill battle.

What do you think? Did you watch Ben and Kate on FOX last night? Will you watch again?
