Meet the new hero of the Shieldlands. Esquire Network‘s new Beowulf TV series premieres Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 10:00pm ET/PT. Watch an extended trailer and a behind-the-scenes video, below.

Beowulf stars Kieran Bew in the title role, with William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, Ed Speleers, and David Ajala.

Here is how Esquire Network describes the Beowulf series:

Based on the complex protagonist of a classic poem written between the eighth and tenth century, Beowulf takes place in a mythological place, The Shieldlands, and challenges the notions of good and evil, heroes and villains, and the rule of law against one’s moral code.
