The Beverly Hillbillies, Mary Tyler Moore: CBS Programmer Michael Dann Dies at 94

Michael Dann

Michael Dann, the former head of CBS programming, has passed away at the age of 94, Deadline reports.

During his tenure in the 1960s, Dann was responsible for such successful CBS programs as The Beverly Hillbillies and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

After getting his start at NBC, where he co-created Today and Tonight, Dann moved to CBS and was eventually promoted to programming head in 1963. While there, he oversaw the creation and cancellation of some of the network’s most iconic series, including The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, which was cancelled after two years in 1969 due to its controversial content.

Dann left CBS in 1970, right after ordering another classic CBS show—All in the Family.

What do you think? Did you watch CBS in the 1960s? What’s your favorite CBS show from that decade?
