This ain’t not lie. According to Variety, HBO’s new mini-series Big Little Lies will not have a second season.
Based on the book by Liane Moriarty, the drama explores the dark secrets hidden amid the seemingly perfect setting of Monterey, California. The cast includes Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, and James Tupper. The mini-series just premiered on February 19th.
Speaking to Variety, Nicole Kidman revealed that the mini-series is really just a seven-hour film:
For a minute we looked it as a film. But it needs the time to do justice to the five women. We wanted the storylines to be evocative. We wanted them to be properly dealt with, and to squeeze it into two hours would have been tough.”
Later, HBO chief Casey Bloys confirmed that Big Little Lies will be closed-ended:
You want a diverse mix of programming, so I don’t have all one-season shows. But compelling material is compelling material.”
What do you think? Did you watch the premiere of Big Little Lies? Do you think HBO should produce more mini-series?
