What’s the status on season two of Big Little Lies? This week, HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed the network is developing another season of the TV show, TVLine reports.
Based on the novel by Liane Moriarty, the drama digs into the dark secrets behind a group of wealthy families living in Monterey, Calif. The cast includes Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, James Tupper, and Jeffrey Nordling.
At this week’s summer TCA press conference, Bloys revealed that Moriarty is working on a follow-up to season one of Big Little Lies. But is everyone on board to return? Witherspoon and Kidman have been vocal about wanting another season, but director Jean-Marc Vallée has been more resistant, saying the HBO series was meant to be one season. Bloys responded:
I know [Jean-Marc] said that… but Nicole and Reese can be very persuasive. First we have to see the material and see if it’s worth everyone’s time. And if it is, [we’ll have a] conversation about directors.”
