Breaking Bad: Bob Odenkirk on Series Finale, Saul Spin-Off

Breaking Bad Saul GoodmanActor Bob Odenkirk, who plays sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman on AMC’s Breaking Bad, recently chatted with The New Republic about his work on the show, the last episode, and the “Better Call Saul” spin-off that’s supposedly in the works.

Odenkirk says that he feels like Saul’s storyline wraps up in a very believable and appropriate way.

When asked what it was like to film his final episode, the actor shared, “I did not feel deeply sad at the final episode for Saul. I have always considered the work to be a crazy gift I’ve been given. Also, and maybe this is because I’m a writer myself, I am acutely aware that one of the reasons the show is so good is that it was hurtling towards an ending, not just lingering and mucking about.”

Odenkirk offered that, despite what others are saying, the proposed spin-off is “still hypothetical.” Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan is still thinking about it and Odenkirk is waiting to see what happens.

When asked what his dream Saul spin-off would be, Odenkirk offered, “Saul Goodman should be mayor of Las Vegas. He could work in any city. It’s just that in Vegas he could be the mayor one day. He’d really be an upstanding citizen.”

The last eight episodes of Breaking Bad start on August 11th. The last episode is expected to air on September 29th.

What do you think? How do you think Saul’s story should end? Should he survive Breaking Bad? Would you watch a Saul spin-off or prequel spin-off?
