Breaking Bad aired on AMC for five seasons. Viewers tuned in week after week to see life of Walter White, who was played by Bryan Cranston, on the small screen. The series was ended after five seasons and bowed out with a very memorable finale.
Fans are still curious about the behind the scenes antics on the series, and a casting director has now shared some more secrets from the set, according to The Huffington Post.
Sharon Bialy revealed that some of the main stars on the series did not land their roles at first. AMC had to be sold on the idea to hire Bryan Cranston. He was the dad from Malcolm in the Middle after all. Could he play Walter White?
Vince Gilligan thought so, and so did the other people in charge of casting, but they needed to convince Sony and AMC that Cranston was the right actor for the starring role. AMC was eyeing at Matthew Broderick or John Cusack for the role.
As for RJ Mitte and Aaron Paul, both almost lost their roles because they were considered to be too good looking. For Mitte’s role, Gilligan wanted an actor with cerebal palsy for the role. Mitte has the disability, but it is not as pronounced as it is in others. Gilligan was convinced to hire the actor after speaking with him.
Bialy also revealed a tidbit about Johnathan Banks. He nailed his audition completely. In fact, on his casting sheet, one of the casting people wrote “Does it get any better? So good!!”
