Buckaroo Banzai is not coming to Prime Video anytime soon. After a lawsuit was filed against the proposed project, Kevin Smith announced that he is now no longer involved with the comedy. Amazon is also holding off on plans to move forward with the series until the legal matters surrounding it are resolved.
Deadline shared the Kevin Smith’s comments about the project:
“This is not what I signed up for. I was caught off-guard [by the lawsuit]. I literally had no idea. It blows, man, because that’s the closest I’ve [come] to having my own show so far.”
The planned television series is based on the 1984 film titled The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension. MGM filed its lawsuit stating that they own the rights to bring the show to television.
