Building Giants and Mega Machines are both premieres next month, and they will take viewers deep into the world of engineering.
Science Channel revealed all of the details about the new shows in a press release. Check that out below.
“Science Channel has designs on a bigger and badder 2018 with the premiere of two new engineering series on Thursday, January 4. BUILDING GIANTS at 9 p.m. ET/PT reveals how the world’s most remarkable superstructures are built, from an underwater Sea Wall designed to prevent Venice from flooding, to the new retractable roof stadium in Atlanta, and much more. At 10 p.m. is the debut of MEGA MACHINES, which takes a close look at world’s most extreme machines, including the Airfish 8, a futuristic flying ship that can skim over water at 120 miles-per-hour, and the Sikorsky S-92, the toughest and best-equipped search and rescue helicopter in the world.
“There are so many mind-blowing buildings and machines that are being constructed all over world. These two series shine a spotlight on the incredible science and technological innovation that enables the types of advancements that many of us take for granted,” said Kyle McCabe, Executive Producer, Science Channel.
Eight-part series BUILDING GIANTS showcases how key technological innovations enable giant superstructures to be built. Footage filmed during construction along with CGI reveal the building process with astonishing detail. The premiere episode charts the creation of the new 71,000 seat Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The 1.4-billion-dollar stadium is being hailed as an architectural wonder because of its eight-petal retractable roof. Other episodes include a look at a massive new cruise ship that can hold more than 7,000 passengers and crew members; a new flood barrier in Venice designed to prevent the precarious ancient city from sinking into the ocean; an ambitious circular subway system that will run directly underneath the historic city center of Copenhagen; and the world’s longest suspension bridge ever built in the Arctic Circle.
Ten-part series MEGA MACHINES unlocks the secrets of iconic machines, such as roller coasters, bullet trains, and cargo planes. Transforming our understanding of the machines around us, the series goes inside, under, over, and through them, revealing how they were built, how they work, how they fail, and how they have evolved. Episodes will look at the Griffon 12000TD hovercraft that skims effortlessly across water, concrete and even rocks at over 50mph, making it the ultimate all-terrain passenger vehicle; the Airfish 8, a unique breed of passenger vehicle, which is longer and heavier than a bus and can skim over water at 120 miles per hour; the Sikorsky built S-92 Helicopter, an evolution of the legendary Blackhawk military chopper; and Italy’s Aprilia RSV4, the most advanced superbike in the world.
