TV show description:
The Duques are a large Cuban-American family that run an immensely successful rum and sugar business in South Florida.
The family’s patriarch, Pancho (Hector Elizondo), is offered a lucrative but questionable deal by his bitter adversaries, the Samuels.
Should he listen to his biological son Frank (Nestor Carbonell) and cash out of the sugar business to focus solely on rum? Or, should he decline the offer and side with his adopted son, Alex Vega (Jimmy Smits), who still sees value in sugar and doesn’t trust the Samuels? Pancho ultimately chooses the latter which only deepens the divide between the two very different brothers.
While Frank is easily distracted by random women, Alex is deeply in love with his wife Isabel (Paola Turbay), Pancho’s daughter. Isabel counterbalances Alex by choosing not to involve herself in the business, focusing instead on their three children; young Artie (Samuel Carman), rebellious Katie (Lina Esco), and college-age Jaime (Michael Trevino). When Jaime’s accepted to a reputable school, he must decide whether to please Alex or forge a new life with his beloved girlfriend Rebecca King (Alona Tal).
Pancho’s youngest son, Henry (Eddie Matos), prefers to stand on the sidelines while his older siblings slug it out for control of the family business. Pancho’s wife, Amalia (Rita Moreno), does her best to hold the family together by hosting large, music-filled family cookouts and lively dinners.
Will loyalties to family come first or will the Duques’ secrets and conflicts be their downfall?
