The Carmichael Show: Creator Teases Season Three

The Carmichael Show

The Carmichael Show wrapped season two over the weekend, and the comedy will return next year for its third season. The creator of the series talked about being on NBC and teased next season in an interview with Deadline.

The series tackled Donald Trump and the election to end season two, and the Bill Cosby scandal was also poked at during the season. Both are hot topics in the media, but Jerrod Carmichael spoke about NBC handling those hot topics on the show. He said the following:

“I think everyone is beyond that now. Besides any specific legal ties they might have to these figures, they realize that regardless of any affiliation, these people are very important to what’s going on in culture and politics right now. Cosby and Trump are part of really important conversations right now. I think NBC is able to see the big picture and go beyond any personal connections.”

As for season three, Carmichael teased the following:

“No premiere date yet. We’re going to open the writers’ room in two or three months, maybe. Do a few weeks of preproduction and jump in. We’re still figuring out the schedule. We already have ideas for a few episodes so I may even write a couple of scripts before the room starts.”

Carmichael also spoke about the short 13-episode seasons. He calls that number “the sweet spot number” for him because it allows him time to focus on the writing.
