What if Castle had continued? According to TVLine, the plan was to keep Kate (Stana Katic) alive for season nine of the ABC series.
As we reported earlier, ABC cancelled the crime drama after eight seasons. It starred Nathan Fillion as a mystery novelist who partners with a homicide detective (Katic) to solve crimes.
When asked what would’ve happened if ABC renewed the series, TVLine’s Michael Ausiello said one plan was to have Kate survive the shoot-out at the end of season eight:
According to sources, one scenario had Kate surviving the season-ending shootout, but everyone — Rick included — would think her dead. Why the ruse?”
Before ABC cancelled the series, the network opted to not have Katic return for a possible ninth season. Fellow castmember Tamala Jones was also asked not to return. On Facebook, Ausiello said one of the scenarios to explain Katic’s absence in season nine was to have Kate working “overseas working on a special undercover mission.” Meanwhile, the rest of the characters would assume Kate was dead.
You can watch Ausiello’s discussion below (starts around 2:00 mark):
What do you think? Are you a Castle fan? Would you have watched the ninth season?
