Castle, Nashville, Body of Proof: ABC Chief Discusses Cancellations

Castle TV show on ABC: season 8 canceled, no season 9

ABC has finally spoken up. Recently, network chief Channing Dungey discussed the cancellation of CastleNashvilleand Body of Proof, reports Deadline.

This past spring, ABC cancelled Castle after eight seasons and Nashville after only four. However, the latter will be continuing for a fifth season on CMT.

At the TCA summer press tour, Dungey revealed that Nashville was cancelled largely due to financial reasons:

Nashville I personally really loved, so for me personally (the cancellation) was a heartbreak. But there were challenges, there were a lot of things to consider. We had a lot of conversations with (Nashville producers) Lionsgate TV and ABC Studios, but it became clear it would be something we could work out.”

She added that the cancellation of Castle was more a case of “running on parallel tracks”:

We were upfront with the studio that we may not be renewing Castle. But they had to prepare for season 9 and do what they needed to do should there be a Season 9. Ultimately, the network’s decision was not to go for Season 9.”

The discussion later turned to the network’s cancellation of Body of Proof, a medical drama that was cancelled back in 2013 after three seasons. Dungey said the network regrets ending the series:

We have oft-lamented the cancellation. It was a good show, and it was sad to see it go.”

What do you think? Are you a fan of Castle, Nashville, and/or Body of Proof? Do you think ABC cancels the wrong shows?
