Provided the Castle TV series is not cancelled by ABC, Seamus Dever’s NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan will return for a ninth season with Nathan Fillion’s Richard Castle. According to TV Line, supporting players Jon Huertas (Esposito), Molly Quinn (Alexis) and Susan Sullivan (Martha) are also in final talks with the network to return for a ninth season, as is and Toks Olagundoye (Hayley), who joined the crime dramedy in season eight.
ABC was supposed to decide by last Friday, May 6th, whether Castle would be cancelled or renewed. Per Deadline, the network pushed to extend the decision deadline, in order to first secure the cast.
With Dever secured and Huertas, Quinn, Sullivan, and Olagundoye finalizing their deals, it seems ABC has decided renew Castle for a ninth season. As soon as the renewal is officially announced, we will let you know.
Do not be surprised if the ninth (and probably final) season of Castle is more of a half-season. Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva says, “All signs had been pointing to a renewal, possibly for a shortened, 13-episode ninth season at a reduced license fee. ‘Why would they go through all that trouble and not pick up the show?’, an observer marveled.”
What do you think? Some fans have made it clear they would rather see Castle cancelled after eight seasons, than watch season nine without Stana Katic as Kate Beckett. Do the above cast deals make the loss of Katic and Tamala Jones (Lanie Parish) sting less or more? Should Castle be cancelled or renewed for a ninth season?
