Castle will return to ABC with the second half of its eighth season on February 1, and there is already speculation about season nine. Will the series continue on next year? Will Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic return if it does?

Paul Lee addressed Castle’s future at the Winter TCA’s, and it is possible the series could continue without Fillion and Katic. According to Deadline, Lee said:
“We’d love for Castle to keep going for years to come. There are lots of good ideas for that. I don’t want to give a glimpse to what those ideas might be, but I’m feeling optimistic that we’ve got some good ideas.”
However, Lee is prepared for the possibility that the stars might not return to the series. According to Variety, he teased that a spin-off could be created if Fillion and Katic decided to leave.
