The Catch: ABC Showrunner Previews Season Two Changes

The Catch TV Show: canceled or renewed?

(ABC/Kelsey McNeal)

What’s in store for The Catch? Recently, showrunner Allan Heinberg spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about season two of the ABC TV series.

From Shonda Rhimes, the drama follows Alice Vaughan (Mireille Enos), a private investigator who is conned out of millions by her fiancé (Peter Krause). The cast also includes Alimi Ballard, Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido, Rose Rollins, Sonya Walger, and Elvy Yost.

In the interview, Heinberg revealed season two will be much more fun and less procedural:

The tone of the show shifted when John Simm joined us and it made such a huge difference. The antic sprit of that character really affected the entire show … [which] became so much more fun to write. We just wanted to create more space to feel that way throughout all the episodes. I remembered going back over the break and watching the episodes that we had done in season one and feeling restless during the procedural scenes and wanting to get back to the characters I loved and wanting to get back to the soap and wanting to know more.”

Later, he also mentioned the new season will explore more of Alice’s past:

We’re going to find out a lot about Alice Vaughn’s past, who she was before she met [her business partner] Val, how she and Val got together. We’re going to meet the man she was about to marry before she met Ben. Bringing him back into the picture is going to create all kinds of complications with Ben.”

Season two of The Catch premieres on ABC tomorrow, March 9th, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
