The Catch: Season Two to Be Very Different Says ABC Showrunner

What’s in store for The Catch? Recently, showrunner Allan Heinberg discussed the plans for season two of the ABC TV series, says The Hollywood Reporter.

From Shonda Rhimes, the drama follows Alice Vaughan (Mireille Enos), a Los Angeles private investigator whose fiancé disappears after conning her out of millions. The cast also includes Peter Krause, Alimi Ballard, Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido, Rose Rollins, Sonya Walger, and Elvy Yost.

At this week’s Television Critics Association press tour, Heinberg told reporters season two of the series will ditch the procedural element:

The case work … was really challenging. We were finding out what the show was as we went. I owed the network and audience a ‘case of the week’ every week, and they were hard to break and took up an enormous amount of real estate in the script.”

He later added that the new season will also be more comedic:

We embraced the show as a comedy — we looked at season one and saw that it’s really a romantic comedy at its heart. … We want you to come on board at any time. Once you see the fun we’re having and how sexy and playful the show is, it really is a romp and a lot of fun and very different from Grey’s and Scandal and it’ll hook you. Watch and you’ll have a good time.”

Season two of The Catch debuts on ABC on March 9th.
