canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

CBS 2019-20 Season Ratings (updated 2/29/20)

Published: February 29, 2020

CBS TV shows: ratings (cancel or renew?)For the previous season, CBS introduced nine new scripted shows during the regular 2018-19 season. The network cancelled five of them and renewed just four. How will their new programming do in the ratings for the 2019-20 season? Stay tuned.

CBS shows this season (so far): 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, All Rise, Blue Bloods, Bob ♥ Abishola, Bull, Carol’s Second Act, Criminal Minds, Evil, FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, God Friended Me, Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver, Madam Secretary, Magnum PI, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Neighborhood, SEAL Team, Survivor, SWAT, Tommy, Undercover Boss, The Unicorn, and Young Sheldon.

There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view them here and here.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.

Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.

Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.

How are your shows doing in the ratings? Check the current rankings:
A&E | ABC | AMC | Bravo | CBS | CMT | The CW | FOX | Freeform | FX | FXX
Hallmark | HBO | History | MTV | NBC | OWN | Showtime | Starz | Syfy | TBS
TNT | TV Land | USA Network | WGN America

What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?

Swat has more people watching than the show Evil. Swat has to be renewed for a 4th season. I am totally addicted to it.

They need to bring back the kids and x- husband and Octavia Spencer on Mom. It was a lot funnier then. It’s still good but not as funny.

I’m very disappointed with the Talk. Adding Marie was a big mistake. If I want to view singing by Donnie and Marie I will watch their old shows. She doesn’t belong on the Talk!!!

Do us all a favor and take her off.

I think Hawaii 5 O is getting so lame that it needs to go. You can tell when they’re is just pictures in the background and also the episode where the tunnel gets blown up … so the dog fits thru a hole the fan is big enough for people to get pulled out but yet they’re all going to die of no oxygen that was simply a comedy not a drama a 10 year old could have written that show

I think the NCIS gain will soon evaporate. It was all due to Ziva’s return. I just watched episode 3 and am back to where I was last year: “Don’t bother” (And what was the connection to the NCIS mission? – the fact that a body was discovered on on a (civilian) truck at a military gate? biiiig stretch

My husband and I watched Carol’s Second Act on its premiere night and found it very funny. He rarely laughs at anything, but this show had him chuckling quite a bit. I hope Carol succeeds!

Where is Last Man Standing? Also, where is the Kool Kids? Those shows made me quit bingo on Friday nights! lol. AND that’s a big change for me. Other junk such as Mystery Singer, Prodial Son, etc. are a waste of my time.

Sweetie, no one makes you watch anything. NOTHING is a waste of your time except what you choose to do that wastes it.

I have to wonder why you’d quit doing something just to stay home and sit in the sofa. With DVRs and streaming services, you can watch any show anytime you want. I mean, time-shifting has been a thing since the days of VCRs back 40 years ago. Why aren’t you time-shifting? My 81-year-old father uses his DVR all the time, so being old isn’t an excuse.
