Chicago PD: EP Teases Season Four of NBC Series

Chicago PD

Chicago PD wrapped its third season on NBC this week, and fans saw a shocking end to the season that will definitely have an impact on season four of the series. Stop reading now if you have not yet watched the Chicago PD finale.

What did fans see on the season four ender?

Voight went back off the rails in a big way after his son was shot and killed. He found the killer himself, and he killed him with a little help from his friends. He kept the Intelligence team away from the location, but Lindsay caught on to his plan and tried to stop him. He was not going to be stopped by anyone, including her.

In an interview with TV Line, Matt Olmstead teased that fans will see a different Voight next season. He said:

“Yes, we’re going to see a different side of him, because he goes from short fuse to no fuse. It’s not going to go back to what we call the other side of street, where he’s taking payouts from drug dealers, even though in his mind, it was a la Robin Hood, using that money to help free up other kids. It’s not like he’s in self-destruct mode. [His mindset is], ‘My right and wrongs are that much more cut-and-dry for me, and my desire to right wrongs is that much more clear to me.’ Is the net of doing that somewhat more direct, possibly brutal? That’s what he has to keep an eye on [and] what people in his unit have to keep an eye on. So it’s a different side of Voight, because ain’t no way he can lose a son and not have that affect him.”

In other comments to The Hollywood Reporter, Olmstead revealed that Voight’s action will have an impact on everyone in the unit. He said:

“It’s not fractured, it’s actually a galvanizing event for the unit in that they put themselves in Voight’s shoes and what would you do? They’ve got a job to do. We’ve touched on what’s going on in Chicago and Chicago is going through a lot. This isn’t a show that is [about] a murky unit that is corrupt or a fractured unit that is about these separate alliances. This is a show about an elite unit that exists in Chicago, the Intelligence Unit. While you may have detectives or uniforms in other departments who are reluctant to get involved and reluctant to make an arrest because there are lawsuits, you have this unit where more than ever, you need them to defend the city, to protect the city. That, ironically or not, is heightened going forward. It’s not fractured.”

The relationship of Halstead and Lindsay was also teased by Olmstead. Fans will see that couple move forward with their relationship and move in together. That will give them something new to deal with. With the departure of Roman from the series, it is also possible fans could see Burgess reunite with Ruzek.

Chicago PD will return to NBC next fall with its fourth season. Did you enjoy the way season three wrapped things up? Tell us what you think.
