Chicago PD aired its season finale on Wednesday night on NBC, and the series saw the departure of a series regular that joined the series during season two. Stop reading now if you have not yet watched last night’s finale.
Who left Chicago PD during the finale?
TV Line reported that Brian Geraghty, the actor behind Roman, would not return next season. This is following the career ending shooting that happened during a previous episode. Instead of taking a desk job, he decided to quit the police force entirely and move away.
TV Line reported that Geraghty made it clear that he would take his time on the series year to year because of his other projects, and he made the decision to leave the show this season to return to his producing responsibilities away from the show.
Matt Olmstead said the following about the actor’s departure:
“He’s also a producer and wants to get stuff off the ground that he’s been working on and wanted to give us a heads-up and include us in the conversation. It was the most civil, level-headed, mutual fan-fest agreement and departure that I’ve ever been a part of, because he was just very decent about it. “I hope that we honored his request. He gave us what we needed — two years of doing a really good job on a character that elevated the show. We shook hands at the beginning, we shook hands at the end, and he’s off to do great things, I’m sure of it.”
The character’s departure will have an impact on season four. Another TV Line report revealed that Roman leaving could open the door for Burgess and Ruzek to reunite. Olmstead teased the following:
“It does, if you want to go there. [In] the beginning of next season, she’s going through a little bit of a celibate period… [Both of her relationships with Ruzek and Roman] blew up in her face. She’s like, “I’m committing myself to [being a] cop,” and there’s a little bit of a run of, hopefully, comedy where she’s trying to get to a certain date of celibacy. Whether or not she gets there, we’ll find out.”
Chicago PD will return to NBC next fall. Are you sad to see the exit of Roman from the series? Tell us what you think.
