CHiPs is a winner. Variety reports the upcoming remake movie has won a California on Location Award.
Based on the 1970s TV series, the movie follows the adventures of two California Highway Patrol officers. In the film, Michael Peña will play Frank “Ponch” Poncherello, the role originated by Erik Estrada, and Dax Shepard is set to play Office Jon Baker, who was played by Larry Wilcox in the original series.
Location manager Rick Schuller was honored at the California on Location Awards for his work on the upcoming film. The awards “recognize location managers, public employees, and other professionals who help facilitate on location production in California.” Other honorees included the upcoming film Live By Night and the TV series Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
CHiPs the movie is slated for theatrical release in August 2017.
