Citizen and When the Street Lights Go On: Hulu Orders New Pilots

Deadline reports Hulu is set to order two new TV pilots. The supernatural Citizen comes from Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.

The coming-of-age thriller, When the Street Lights Go On is based on a film screenplay of the same name, by Chris Hutton and Eddie O’Keefe.

Both projects hail from Paramount Television and Anonymous Content and stem from the two companies’ first-look deal.

Created, written and executive produced by Gomez-Rejon, Josh Pate and ‎Nicholas Schutt, Citizen is described as a fresh take on the hero origin story blending elements of magical realism and gritty vigilantism set against the backdrop of a vibrant, “supernaturalized” Los Angeles. Anonymous Content’s David Kanter, Matt DeRossand Steve Golin also executive produce.

Hutton and O’Keefe’s When the Street Lights Go On screenplay ranked second on the 2011 Black List behind The Imitation Game. A few months later, Anonymous Content came on board to produce the feature with documentary helmer Brett Morgen (The Kid Stays in the Picture) set to direct. Morgan is still attached and will direct the pilot. He, Hutton and O’Keefe (Shangri-La Suite) executive produce alongside Anonymous Content’s Chad Hamilton, Tariq Merhab, Michael Sugar and Steve Golin.

In the vein of Stand by Me, When the Street Lights Go On is a coming-of-age thriller about a sleepy, suburban town that is rocked by the brutal murder of a high school girl and her teacher in the summer of 1983.
