Community: Fans to Stage Event at NBC HQ [updated]

Save Community posterFans of the Community sitcom plan on showing their support for the comedy by staging a flash mob at NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Center headquarters in New York. The event is scheduled to take place from 1-1:30pm today.

The event’s Facebook page notes, “The Flash Mob will start with the singing of O’ Christmas Troy (same lyrics as O’ Christmas Tree just replacing “Tree’ with “Troy”) while facing the Huge Christmas Tree! It will end with the chant Go Greendale, Go Greendale, GO! … You bring a picture or drawing of a Christmas tree and a Black goatee (which can be made out of construction paper or felt).

The group is also spreading the word on Twitter with the hashtags #OccupyNBC and #SaveCommunity. In addition, tongue-in-cheek posters have been created to help promote and save the show.

As fans are all too well aware, the low-rated comedy has been shelved for mid-season and NBC hasn’t decided when to bring it back. After 10 episodes, Community is the lowest-rated NBC comedy and currently averages a 1.6 in the 18-49 demographic and 3.67 million total viewers. That’s down by 16% in the demo when compared to last season.

UPDATED: Here’s video of part of the event:

What do you think? Does Community deserve to be saved? Do you think events like this help at all?
