The Contender: EPIX to Revive Cancelled NBC TV Show

The Contender TV show on NBC being revived on EPIX

Remember The Contender? Deadline reports EPIX is reviving the cancelled NBC TV show.

From Mark Burnett, the original series followed boxers as they competed against one another to become the champion. The show was hosted by Sugar Ray Leonard, Sylvester Stallone, and Tony Danza before being cancelled in 2008 after four seasons.

EPIX has ordered 12 episodes for their reboot of The Contender, which will begin shooting later this year.

From Burnett:

Boxing belongs on premium pay television and there is no better home for The Contender than Epix. We will tell stories of the fighters, the families and their difficult journeys in the emotionally compelling Contender style,” he continued, “so that viewers get to vicariously ‘walk a mile’ in the boxers shoes.”

What do you think? Are you a fan of boxing? Will you watch the new Contender series?
