Conviction: ABC Commits to Put Pilot

ABC TV shows: ratings (cancel or renew?)

Deadline Hollywood reports that ABC has given a put pilot commitment to Mark Gordon Co.’s legal drama, Conviction. Put pilots, by definition, involve financial penalties if not aired, so they nearly always do. Conviction’s co-creators are the similarly named Liz Friedman and Liz Friedlander. Friedman will write Conviction. Friedlander will direct.

From Deadline:

[Conviction] tells the story of Carter Morrison, the brilliant but rebellious daughter of a Clinton-like political family who is forced into taking a job as the head of Los Angeles’ newly created Conviction Integrity Unit. She, along with her team of lawyers, investigators and forensic experts, has two weeks to examine cases where there’s credible suspicion that the wrong person may have been convicted of a crime.

MGC’s Gordon and Nick Pepper will executive produce alongside Friedlander and Friedman. MGC will produce and finance the series, with international rights being sold by eOne. ABC Studios is in talks to join the project as a co-financier.

This early in the process, there is no word on cast or scheduling.

What do you think? With the U.S. 2016 Presidential Election headed our way, does the “political family” angle make you want to tune in or out? Do you plan to watch?
