Conviction is going international. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new ABC series has been sold to several countries overseas.
The legal drama stars Hayley Atwell as Hayes Morrison, a former president’s daughter who is blackmailed into re-examining cases for possible wrongful conviction. The cast also includes Eddie Cahill, Shawn Ashmore, Merrin Dungey, Emily Kinney, Manny Montana, and Daniel Franzese.
Entertainment One (eOne), the show’s international distributor, has sold the series to markets in France, the UK, and Latin America despite its somewhat low-rated premiere in the United States. Last week, the show’s pilot earned a .92 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 5.174 million viewers.
Nevertheless, procedural dramas remain popular both within and outside the U.S., says eOne chief Stuart Baxter:
International buyers continue to want strong procedural shows from the U.S. networks and we are really pleased how well the market has responded to another great show from The Mark Gordon Company.”
