America’s Most Wanted: Finished on FOX; Cops: Not Cancelled But…

Cops basically done on FOXRemember when FOX dropped America’s Most Wanted from the regular Saturday night schedule? Well, they’re doing essentially the same thing to Cops and are now finished with America’s Most Wanted altogether.

While Cops frequently wins its Saturday timeslot, FOX apparently isn’t satisfied with a 1.3 demo rating. Once a Saturday night staple, the reality show has been on only sporadically this season. Now, Vulture reports that FOX will be airing Cops even fewer times moving forward.

The network is scheduling sports programming — a mixture of baseball, college football, NASCAR, and UFC matches — for the next 28 of 32 Saturdays between now and early December. That will leave just three nights that Cops could air since an America’s Most Wanted special will take up one of them.

FOX maintains that Cops is not being cancelled but they are cutting back on the number of new episodes being ordered for the future. They have enough original installments through early 2013. Interestingly, the reruns of Cops frequently perform better than the originals so FOX could easily just air reruns as needed after that.

America’s Most Wanted, which FOX cancelled as a weekly series last May, has remained on the network as a series of quarterly two-hour specials. The fourth special of this season will air on April 21st and a network rep has confirmed that that will end America’s Most Wanted’s association with the network.

The John Walsh-hosted series was picked up by Lifetime and has been performing well for the cable channel since December. Last month, the cable channel ordered an additional 20 installments.

What do you think? Are you a fan of either of these shows? Will you miss seeing Cops and America’s Most Wanted on FOX?
