Cosmos: Season Two; FOX Delays Possible Worlds Debut

Cosmos: Possible Worlds premiere delayed; Cosmos TV show on FOX: season 2 (canceled or renewed?)

(Miranda Penn Turin / FOX)

The second season premiere of the Cosmos TV show revival, subtitled Possible Worlds, has been postponed by on FOX and National Geographic Channel. Season two of Cosmos was supposed to debut on FOX on Sunday, March 3rd and National Geographic on Monday, March 4th, but the networks have decided to hold off on airing Cosmos: Possible Worlds during the investigation of sexual misconduct allegations against host Neil deGrasse Tyson. For the near future, FOX is airing Family Guy reruns in its place. Check out the schedule, below.

Airing on both FOX and National Geographic Channel, the Cosmos documentary series is a follow-up to Carl Sagan’s 1980 television series, Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, which the networks still count as season one, with 2014’s Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey as the second, and Cosmos: Possible Worlds being the third. The program is executive produced by Seth MacFarlane and Ann Druyan (Sagan’s widow).

Deadline reports:

“The credo at the heart of Cosmos is to follow the evidence wherever it leads,” the show’s producers said in a statement to Deadline in November. “The producers of Cosmos can do no less in this situation. We are committed to a thorough investigation of this matter and to act accordingly as soon as it is concluded.”

Following the acclaim the 2014 revival of the classic Carl Sagan docuseries received, Fox and National Geographic a year ago ordered a second installment with Tyson returning as host. In addition to Cosmos, Tyson hosts StarTalk, also on Nat Geo, which was pulled off the air after the allegations surfaced and continues to be benched.

Check out the FOX schedule for Sunday, March 3rd and Sunday, March 10th.
