Crashing: Season Two: Pete Holmes Looks Ahead

Crashing TV show on HBO: season 2 (canceled or renewed?)

(Macall B. Polay / HBO)

Pete Holmes’ Crashing TV show was renewed for a second season on HBO, last month. In wake of Sunday’s season one finale, the star, who executive produces the TV series with Judd Apatow, is talking about the second season of his semi-autobiographical series.

A scripted HBO comedy series, the Crashing cast also includes Lauren Lapkus, George Basil, Jermaine Fowler, Aparna Nancherla, Dov Davidoff, Zach Cherry, and Jo Yang. In season one, Dave Attell, Hannibal Burress, Artie Lange, T.J. Miller, Jim Norton, Rachael Ray, and Sarah Silverman guest starred as themselves.

Pete Holmes Teases Crashing Season Two on HBO

When Entertainment Weekly asked Holmes about season two, he said:

I think that the first season, in my mind, is about denying his divorce, because he doesn’t believe it. I think second season is going to be Pete accepting it, and maybe even grieving it. And maybe even acting out a little bit, because it’s going to be real to him now. It’s not going to be a trial divorce, it’s going to be the real thing. He’s going to have to find a way to live. He’s going to have to find a new place to stay. And if he doesn’t get better [at comedy], he won’t have a spouse to fall back on, so his ass is even more on the line, which is where we find a lot of the comedy.

Will Artie Lange and George Basil Be In Crashing Season Two?

Last month, word broke that comedian Artie Lange was arrested for drug possession, but reportedly was ultimately charged with the lesser offense of being a disorderly person. Lange was a big fixture in the first season of Crashing.

There have been conflicting stories about whether of not he has been fired from the HBO production. When EW asked if Lange would be in the second season, he said:

Yeah, absolutely. That’s the plan. I know Artie was having some legal trouble, and we hope he’s doing well. I’m hoping that he will be and planning that he will be. I look forward to it.

The Crashing season one finale featured Pete sharing a hotel room with his ex-wife’s love, Leif (Basil). When asked if fans can expect to see Leif in Crashing season two, Holmes replied:

Absolutely. When I met George Basil at a party probably seven years ago, I literally said to him, “I’m going to write a movie for you.” I loved him so much I pledged to make him a project and all these years later, it happens as a TV show, but still. I’m not going to let somebody that great get away.
