Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: First Look at CW Comedy Series

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend TV show on The CW: cancel or renew? This story is a little strange. The CW has picked up Crazy Ex-Girlfriend as a new series for the 2015-16 season. It will debut in the fall and air on Mondays at 8pm, leading into Jane the Virgin.

The series pilot was filmed as a half-hour racy comedy for Showtime. The cable channel ultimately passed so Kate Adler and Jim Donnelly, comedy executives at CBS TV Studios, showed it to execs at The CW. They all loved it so gave the project a thumbs up.

The decision was made to tone it down and redevelop it as an hour series. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was going to be ready for 2016-17 but a couple weeks ago, execs asked if the series could be put on the fast track for 2015-16. They apparently feel it works very well as a companion to Jane.

Here’s the network’s description and video preview:

Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom) is a successful, driven, and possibly crazy young woman who impulsively gives up everything – her partnership at a prestigious law firm and her upscale apartment in Manhattan – in a desperate attempt to find love and happiness in that exotic hotbed of romance and adventure: suburban West Covina, Calif. (it’s only two hours from the beach! Four in traffic).

From CBS Television Studios, CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND stars Rachel Bloom (“Robot Chicken”), who also serves as executive producer along with Aline Brosh McKenna (“The Devil Wears Prada”); and Marc Webb (“500 Days of Summer,” “The Amazing Spider-Man” films).

What do you think? Do you plan to tune in to check out this new TV show? Do you think it will be a hit? Cancelled after one season?
