How long will The Crown last? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix chief Ted Sarandos wants the series to last for six seasons.
The historical drama chronicles the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. The castincludes Claire Foy, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Vanessa Kirby, and John Lithgow. Netflix has already ordered a second season of the series.
At a recent panel, Sarandos said he envisions the series will “take Queen Elizabeth from age 29 to, presumably, the current day.”:
We’re in production now on the second season. This is going to take Queen Elizabeth from age 29 to, presumably, the current day. We’ll see it lay out over decades. We’ve seen a lot of things about Queen Elizabeth, but we’ve already learned more about her than we ever had by watching the first ten hours.
It’s a crazy idea to come in with a 60-hour pitch. The idea is to do this over six decades, in six seasons presumably, and make the whole show over eight to 10 years.”
While Sarandos has big plans for The Crown, creator Peter Morgan is thinking more modestly. Earlier, the writer said he isn’t even thinking past season two at the moment:
I’ve got to be honest with you. I cannot think beyond season two and I’m not going to think beyond season two. Of course by virtue of the fact that we continue to have Prime Ministers and the Queen has continued to stay alive and on the throne, there is a possibility of further material.”
What do you think? Have you seen The Crown yet? Do you want more seasons?
