Cruel Intentions: NBC May Make Drama Series for Online Streaming

Cruel Intentions TV show on NBC: season 1 (canceled or renewed?).

You may have to get your Cruel Intentions fix on the Internet. TVLine reports NBC may make the revival series available through online streaming.

A spin-off of the 1999 film, the drama follows the son of Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) and Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe). The cast includes original castmember Sarah Michelle Gellar in addition to Peter Gallagher, Taylor John Smith, Nathalie Kelley, Coby Bell, Anne Winters, Duane Henry, and Samantha Logan.

While NBC did not pick the pilot up to series this past May, network chief Jennifer Salke said the show may fit online:

It was really a space issue. We had a spot for a big, great soap, and This Is Us seemed to fit better. So we started looking for opportunities in midseason, possibly summer for the show. We [also] started talking about the OTT [streaming] platform that you heard was looming. So we right now we wanted to make sure wehave the show, because I’m determined to find a place to put it.”

She also added that, as a streaming series, Cruel Intentions would have more leeway in terms of content:

I think there would be two versions of the show, and, of course, if it ends up on some alternative platform, we would have more leeway. But it is designed to be dishy and fun and sort of push the envelope as far as sexuality. It’s not something we’re inviting kids in to watch.”

What do you think? Are you fan of Cruel Intentions the movie? Would you watch it as a streaming series?
