The Cruel Intentions reboot has met a cruel end. Deadline reports the spin-off TV series has been effectively cancelled by Sony TV.
A sequel to the 1999 film, the show would have followed the son of Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) and Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe). The cast included original cast member Sarah Michelle Gellar in addition to Peter Gallagher, Taylor John Smith, Nathalie Kelley, Coby Bell, Anne Winters, Duane Henry, and Samantha Logan.
In October, we reported that NBC had passed on the Cruel Intentions series, but producing studio Sony TV planned to shop the project around. Now two months later, Sony TV has decided not to renew the options on the pilot’s cast—effectively cancelling the project.
However, there remains some hope. Deadline reports Sony TV may redevelop the project at a later date.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the film Cruel Intentions? Would you watch the spin-off series?
