Crushed is a new pilot in development by Hulu, and the series has already faced one major hurtle. Pre-production on the series was set to begin this month, but the production had to move locations.
After the passing of new Anti-gay legislation in North Carolina, those involved with the series decided to move the production out of the state.
The series is being produced by Lionsgate, who is also behind the planned Dirty Dancing remake for ABC. That production will wrap in North Carolina since it is near completion.
The Charlotte Observer reported that the crew meant to work on the production learned that the production was moving out of North Carolina on March 24.
In a letter, Lionsgate said the following about the move:
“We will be hard pressed to continue our relationship with North Carolina if this regressive law remains on the books.”
Rob Reiner has also spoken out and made it clear he will not film in the state until the law is removed from the books, and he is asking others in the entertainment industry to do the same.
Crushed will now film in Vancouver. The series will star Regina Hall, and it will tell the story of an “African-American family and their Napa Valley wine business.”
