Jemar Michael has joined the cast of the Dear White People TV show coming to Netflix. He will recur as Al on the 10-episode comedy series based on Justin Simien’s satirical film of the same name.

The Dear White People cast includes: Brandon P. Bell, Logan Browning, Antoinette Robertson, DeRon Horton, John Patrick Amedori, and Ashley Blaine Featherson. Also recurring are: Nia Jervier, Wyatt Nash, and Brant Daugherty.

Netflix says, “Set among a diverse group of students of color as they navigate a predominantly white Ivy League college where racial tensions are often swept under the rug, Dear White People is a send up of ‘post-racial’ America that also weaves a universal story about forging one’s own unique path.”

Deadline describes Jemar Michael’s character Al as, “…an exuberant, ethnically ambiguous student leader of the Black American Forum (Black AF) — a more radical rival to Winchester’s Black Student Union.”

The actor played the character “Smoothe” in the 2014 indie feature film.
