Kiefer Sutherland isn’t saving the president this time. He is the president. Deadline reports ABC has picked up the actor’s new vehicle, Designated Survivor, to series.
The drama “centers on Tom Kirkman (Sutherland), a lower cabinet member who unexpectedly becomes president after a devastating attack on Washington.” The show also stars Natascha McElhon, Maggie Q, Kal Penn, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, LaMonica Garrett and Tanner Buchanan.
ABC has already ordered 13 episodes of the political thriller, with Dirty Sexy Money‘s Jon Harmon Feldman reportedly taking over as showrunner. The series will premiere later this year.
