ABC has brought on Amy B. Harris as showrunner and executive producer for Kiefer Sutherland’s new Designated Survivor TV series. Harris created The Carrie Diaries, a Sex and the City prequel, which was cancelled by The CW after two seasons. She also EPed Wicked City which was cancelled by ABC after three episodes.
Designated Survivor is written by David Guggenheim. He will executive produce with Harris, Simon Kinberg, and Suzan Bymel.
Here is how Deadline describes this conspiracy drama:
Tom Kirkman (Sutherland), a lower level United States Cabinet member, is suddenly appointed President after a catastrophic attack during the State of the Union kills everyone above him in the Presidential line of succession. This is a family drama wrapped around a conspiracy thriller about an ordinary man in an extraordinary situation.
In November, FOX picked up a Johnny Depp produced series, with a similar premise. It was also called Designated Survivor. And you thought the titles of ABC’s American Crime and FX‘s American Crime Story crime anthology TV shows were too similar (so did we)!
What do you think? Do you like the sound of the Designated Survivor TV show? Do you plan to check it out?
