Dogs in the City: To Be Cancelled or Renewed for Season Two?

Dogs in the City on CBS canceled renewedSome say that network television has gone to the dogs. CBS was hoping that canines would bring them some big ratings with Dogs in the City. Were they right? Will the show be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

Dogs in the City follows Manhattan’s Justin Silver, the “go-to guy” for all things dog-related. In each installment, he meets with clients who have problems with their canines. Justin gets as imaginative as necessary to reach a satisfying resolution, often finding that the owners have as much to learn as their pups.

The TV series debuted on May 30th to a disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.72 million total viewers. The premiere drew less than half of what FOX attracted in the demo with So You Think You Can Dance and only narrowly beat some sitcom repeats on ABC.

Should Dogs in the City be renewed?

In week two, Dogs in the City fell 31% in the demo, to a 0.9 rating with 5.15 million. The next few weeks’ ratings rose a bit but the numbers still weren’t very positive. The six episodes of the season averaged just a 1.0 demo rating with 5.29 million viewers.

Compared to CBS’ other summer original programs, Dogs in the City was the lowest-rated show for weeks — until their (already cancelled) 3 series came along. That’s a pretty poor distinction.

While Dogs seems to have attracted a small but loyal audience, there sadly doesn’t seem like much reason for CBS to renew it for a second season.

But, what do you think? Do you like the TV series? Do you think that Dogs in the City should be cancelled or renewed?
