Downton Abbey: John Legend Adds Lyrics to PBS Drama’s Theme Song

Downton Abbey

In case you’re still mourning the end of Downton Abbey, Jimmy Kimmel and John Legend have a treat. On Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, Legend performed new lyrics set to the PBS drama’s theme tune.

The series finale of Downton Abbey aired this past Sunday, earning record high ratings from fans bidding it farewell.

For viewers of Downton Abbey, Legend’s lyrics offer both hilarious and very apt observations of the British historical drama. From the start, Legend sings: “Everyone we know is very white / we don’t have one black friend.”

The lyrics hit on many of the more memorable features of the series, from Maggie Smith’s witty putdowns to Thomas, the gay footman, to all those omnipresent scones and hats.

Perhaps the most on-point lyric focused on Edith (Laura Carmichael), the much maligned Crawley sister: “Edith is such a loser, why won’t she just die?”

Edith may have her unhappy ending yet. Series creator Julian Fellowes says a Downton Abbey movie may be possible.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Downton Abbey? Did you like the series finale? Would you watch a movie sequel?
