It looks like Dr. Ken will be hanging up his white coat and stethoscope. ABC recently cancelled the TV show after two seasons.
Based on the experiences of creator and star Ken Jeong, the sitcom follows the life of a brilliant but unorthodox physician and family man. The cast also includes Suzy Nakamura, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Jonathan Slavin, Kate Simses, Albert Tsai, Krista Marie Yu, and Dave Foley.
ABC‘s decision to cancel Dr. Ken is not a huge shock. For the past two seasons, the comedy’s ratings have been mediocre at best. Season two, which finished in March, earned an average rating of 0.88 in the 18-49 demo and 4.41 million viewers. While not the worst, it seems that these middling ratings weren’t enough to save Dr. Ken.
ABC has also cancelled lead-in Last Man Standing after six seasons and there has been talk that the network may not air comedies on Friday nights next season. Word is that Dr. Ken’s producers did not even pitch third season ideas to ABC.
What do you think? Did you watch Dr. Ken? Do you think ABC should’ve renewed the sitcom for a third season?
