Dynasty: Joan Collins Would Love to Play Alexis Again — in the Prequel Movie?

Dynasty prequel movieWith Dallas slated to return as a new TV series next summer on TNT, it seems like only a matter of time before someone tries to bring back Dynasty, the other blockbuster primetime soap of the 1980s.

Earlier this year, Dynasty co-creator Richard Shapiro said that he and wife Esther were actually working on a prequel feature film that would be set in the 1960s. Shapiro said it would take place in the early Kennedy years and revolve around Blake’s discovery that he’s the heir to the family fortune and his love affair with Alexis.

Shapiro noted, “We’ve given thought to the movie before and we’ve been approached by a lot of companies, but no one seemed to have a proper fix on it. Then suddenly we said, ‘Let’s do it [ourselves]!’ — and we’re the ones to do it.”

He explained, “It was my daughter Florie’s notion to do a prequel, and that sounded very very good to us. It’s how young Blake doesn’t realize he’s the son of Tom Carrington, but then he finds himself at the head of this company and surrounded by assassins and people who want to do him in.”

It’s unclear if there will be parts for any of the surviving members of the TV show’s cast, but Joan Collins has been in contact with co-creator Esther Shapiro. Collins said she couldn’t share any of the top secret details of the script but noted that she’d love the opportunity to play Alexis again.

If they stick with the prequel idea, the 78-year-old diva looks great for her age but is obviously way too old to play a young Alexis. Still, there’s always the possibility that Collins could play Alexis in bookend scenes, in which she recounts her younger days with Blake. Perhaps at his funeral, as an homage to John Forsythe who passed away last year?

What do you think? Would you like to see a Dynasty prequel movie? Who would you cast? Should Collins and other members of the TV cast have roles in the project? Which ones?
