What’s This TV Show About?

Airing on the CBS television network, Elementary follows detective Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu). This modern-day adaptation of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle detective stories features some new spins on the classic crime-solving duo. Instead of assisting Scotland Yard, they crack New York City’s toughest cases. A former surgeon who lost a patient, as well as her license to practice, Watson began as Sherlock’s sober companion. Eventually, their relationship evolved into an investigative partnership. Also starring are Aidan Quinn as Captain Thomas Gregson and Jon Michael Hill as Detective Marcus Bell.
 

Season Five Ratings

Currently, the fifth season of Elementary is averaging a 0.65 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.86 million viewers. Compared to season four, that’s down by 33% and down by 15%, respectively. Learn how Elementary stacks up against the other CBS TV shows.
 

 

Telly’s Take

I deduce this may be the final season of Elementary. In the 2016-17 television season, this mystery drama is one of the least-watched CBS TV shows. Sure, it has a tough timeslot but, those ratings are truly terrible for a CBS show. By the end of the current fifth season, the detective series should total about 120 episodes. That’s plenty of episodes for syndication and the network needs to make room for new dramas next year. Therefore it’s… elementary. CBS has more reasons to cancel Elementary, than to renew it for season six. Consequently, I’ve left my perch and am circling in anticipation of a lovely feast. For fans of the show, I hope that I’m wrong.
