Emerald City: Cancelled by NBC; No Second Season

Emerald City TV Show on NBC: Canceled, no Season 2 (canceled or renewed?)

It seems Dorothy Gale will return to Kansas. NBC has cancelled the Emerald City TV show. There will be no season two. The fantasy drama starred Adria Arjona, Vincent D’Onofrio, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, and Joely Richardson.

As usual, it comes down to the ratings. The first season of Emerald City on NBC averaged a 0.72 rating in the 18-49 demographic and an audience of 3.02 million viewers. When you compare its ratings to those of other NBC TV shows, the cancellation is understandable.

Emerald City Cancellation Confirmed

While we have been anticipating the Emerald City TV show cancellation for a while, Variety confirmed it, last night.

Emerald City‘s yellow brick road to the airwaves was riddled with potholes. Production on The Land of Oz-inspired drama was supposed to begin in 2014. Although the network planned for a 2015 premiere, creative differences derailed the project.

The Peacock Network eventually reversed that decision. In April 2015, they brought on a new showrunner. Still, it seems they didn’t have much faith in Emerald City, since they scheduled it on Friday nights, and held the premiere until January 2017.

What do you think? Were you a fan of the Emerald City TV series? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed it for a second season? Let us know, below.
