Emerald City: EPs Ready to Make Season Two of NBC Series

Emerald City TV show on NBC: season 2 (canceled or renewed?)

(David Lukacs / NBC)

Click your heels together three times and make a wish, Oz fans. EPs Shaun Cassidy and David Schulner are ready, willing, and able to make a second season of the Emerald City TV show, should NBC choose to take them up on it. The first 10-episode limited season concluded its run on Friday, March 3rd, with the finale episode, “There’s No Place Like Home.”

A limited event series, Emerald City starred Adria Arjona, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, Joely Richardson, and Vincent D’Onofrio. Isabel Lucas, Roxy Sternberg, Stefanie Martini, Rebeka Rea, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson recurred on the NBC fantasy drama, based on the Oz novels by L. Frank Baum.

EPs Ready to Make Emerald City Season Two for NBC

Every week during Emerald City‘s network run, the duo has discussed behind-the-scenes happenings and explained the details of the new NBC TV series with Entertainment Weekly. This week, they shared their thoughts in the form of a thank you note. In it, Cassidy and Schulner indicated they’d love to make more of the fantasy drama. Here’s more from EW.com.

As you have seen in our finale, “No Place Like Home” (written by David Schulner and Josh Carlebach), this story has now ended, but a new one lies ahead. Should NBC choose to make another limited series based on Baum’s characters, David and I would welcome the opportunity. If not, know that this has been one of the most fulfilling experiences either of us has enjoyed, and we remain humbled by all of our brilliant creative partners who made this show so exceptional.

With gratitude to all of you,

Shaun Cassidy & David Schulner
Executive Producers of Emerald City

Emerald City: A Look at the Season One Ratings

While Cassidy and Schulner would love to make a new season of Emerald City, what are the odds NBC will want one? Well, we think they’re about as low as the show’s ratings in season one.

In its first season, the Emerald City TV show averaged a 0.72 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and a total audience of 3.027 million viewers.  As of today, those numbers mean the show is 17th out of The Peacock Network’s 17 scripted shows we’re tracking, when sorted by their demo numbers.

When sorted by total viewers, Emerald City rises just one notch to 16th place, in terms of audience size — beating out only the new sitcom, Powerless.  In fact, even when compared to NBC’s non-scripted (i.e. less expensive to produce) programming, Emerald City‘s numbers leave it at the bottom of the barrel. Only Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon is a weaker Nielsen performer.
