Emily Owens, MD revolves around an intern (Mamie Gummer) who starts working at a prestigious hospital. She’s excited to begin her new job until she realizes that it’s going to be a lot like high school — complete with her former school nemesis. The show also stars Justin Hartley, Aja Naomi King, Kelly McCreary, Harry Lennix, Necar Zadegan, and Michael Rady.
The premiere drew a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.69 million total viewers. It was hardly an impressive start. Both Arrow and Beauty and the Beast did much better, garnering more than twice the demo rating.
Compared to last season’s debut of America’s Next Top Model in the same timeslot, the network was down by 44% in the demo (vs a 0.9 rating) and down by 14% in viewership (vs 1.96 million).
Based on this poor start and unless the ratings improve, Emily Owens, MD may run the season but it seems highly unlikely to be renewed for a second season. That’s assuming that the other shows on The CW network don’t end up doing even worse.
